THEY SAY THAT I AM BROKEN - AUDIO EXCERPT FROM BOOK
April 11, 2011 08:16 PM PDT
They say that I am broken like an expensive crystal glass that has just fallen to the floor and been shattered into a million pieces.
So shattered, it was easy to be misled, enslaved, and seduced by others to live a lifestyle that many claim dishonors humanity and insults deity.
"Then believe on Me with your whole heart," He said, "and change your confession! Say no more 'I am broken'! Say no more 'I am shattered'! Instead, say 'I am healed'! Say 'I am redeemed'! Say 'I and the Father are one'! Say 'I walk in the newness of life'. "And when the appointed time comes, I shall return for you, and then I will complete my work."

BY FAMED BLACK GAY AUTHOR TERRY ANGEL MASON Prodigal Son is an Excerpt from Angel Mason's Best Selling Book:
Terry Angel Mason, the African-American author who is rapidly becoming internationally acclaimed, is highly regarded for his ability to overcome adversity. Many would go so far as to say Mason is a Maverick of an angel since his life reads like an excerpt from Tony Kushner's Angels in America. He has a momentous quest, having overcome two life threatening-illnesses. Mason's thought-provoking articles, life-changing stories, and sensual romantic poetry about the Black gay experience touches and inspires millions of lives worldwide as is evidenced by the numerous distributors who carry his much sought-after literary masterpiece, LOVE WON'T LET ME BE SILENT. Mason's new book is proving to be tremendously appealing to men and women of all ages and ethnicities in every country at a record pace, garnering international attention, recognition, and media acclaim; defying geographical boundaries, overcoming language barriers (appealing to more than just the gay community), and crossing over into the broader heterosexual community in ways that few authors have been able to do -- and is particularly popular with women! Love Won't Let Me Be Silent is a collection of writings, short stories, and poems that falls into several categories, including gay and lesbian fiction and non-fiction, African American fiction and non-fiction, and urban fiction. Perhaps one of the reasons that Mason is experiencing tremendous success is because of his unique creative way of crafting poetic stories that show readers a more positive perspective of same-gender-loving people. Additionally, many credit Mason with opening up a whole new dialogue about sexuality and same-gender-loving relationships within the Black community, specifically within the Black Church. Gay activists and Civil Rights leaders often applaud his seemingly unending humanitarian efforts and ferocious courage, believing that perhaps one day his efforts will lead to the demise of the much despised "don't ask, don't tell" policy in many religious circles; enhance understanding of the LGBT community, and/or at the least, soften the hearts of family members and clergy who may be opposed to a gay lifestyle. America has barely smoothed its feathers -- ruffled badly last year by the California Supreme Court's initial decision to lift the ban on gay marriage, followed by a divisive election that reversed the decision and placed the matter again before the California Supreme Court for repeal. These chilling events led to an epiphany that compelled him to write Love Won't Let Me Be Silent. These electrifying writings are destined to make him one of the foremost voices of the African-American gay experience. We have no doubt that the artistry and enduring vision that Mason demonstrates in this inspiring book will cause a revolutionary awakening in America and the world and continue to influence our culture, reshape our thinking, and touch our hearts and lives for decades. EXCERPT FROM: THEY SAY THAT I AM BROKEN by Internationally Acclaimed Author, Terry Angel Mason Uganda, My Heart Weeps for You! A GLOBAL AUTHOR'S RESPONSE TO THE PROPOSED LEGISLATIVE GENOCIDE IN UGANDA -- by Terry Angel Mason Uganda, Uganda, my heart weeps for you! For you kill, murder, and imprison the innocent (those who express love differently) in the name of The Righteous One, but it is clear that you do not know Him! Like America, you label them pedophiles and child molesters, yet continue to close your eyes to the true heterosexual offenders, allowing them to continually rape your children and infect them with AIDS; men who foolishly believe that this will cure them from the pandemic. It has been said that you freed yourself from the tyranny and oppression of a king (Mwanga) who was demented, greedy, self-serving and who defiled the people and if these things be true, then this is good! But you forgot that even though he was said to be corrupt and accused of raping the people both physically and emotionally for years, still we must judge each human being by their own conduct, character, and deeds, and not punish the innocent for another's sins. Uganda, Uganda, my heart weeps for you because even though the rain falls frequently upon your land in the south and beautiful lakes run through your northern region, they have not cleansed you from your transgressions for you are still blinded by hatred, fear, and intolerance, and cannot see that the sun rises upon the just and the unjust, so that all men may be wooed to the Creator by love and mercy and not by hatred and discrimination! For hundreds of years other nations robbed you of your wealth, stole your children and carried them away to foreign lands and enslaved them. Even today, in many regions of your country you suffer from extreme poverty because of usury and exploitation from men who lusted after your riches, saw you could not defend yourself, and carried them away to distant lands. You must be very careful lest the handwriting of God also appear in judgment for your offenses and likewise be written upon your walls and inscribed in your Constitution now laced with fear and intolerance, having been saturated by the influence of misguided, self-seeking American Evangelists, these words spoken by the prophet Daniel: "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN" The interpretation:
Thousands of you marched in your city streets to rid yourself of a sin that you say will most certainly bring the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah upon your land; but like the Scribes and the Pharisees of Jesus' day, legalism and an incorrect interpretation of the Holy Scriptures have blinded you. Because of your hatred for what you do not understand, The Prince of Darkness deceives you yet again; prostituting you like the demented king you managed to free yourself from decades ago; have you still not heard the words of Jesus who said, "He was a murderer from the beginning?" Uganda, Uganda, my heart weeps for you! Don't you know that you cannot kill the innocent, batter and abuse your children, and lock them away in dungeons of cruelty for life simply because you refuse to accept who they really are without the very King of the Universe (whom you claim you worship), championing their cause, and lifting his righteous hand of justice and judgment against you? He has heard the voices of the children devastated by earthquakes and disaster in Chile, Mexico and Haiti and He has freed the oppressed in America from hundreds of years of discrimination. He has even delivered the Jews from the oppression of a mighty pharaoh (once thought invincible) in Egypt. Surely, He will not turn a deaf ear to innocent same-gender-loving people in your country, nor allow you to murder them without cause and your land and your people not be judged for doing so!
Uganda: LGBT Activist David Kato Murdered Caribbean associations working on reproductive, sexuality and HIV issues have issued a brief joint statement of condolence and tribute to the life of slain Sexual Minorities Uganda human rights defender David Kato. The statement, signed by over 25 groups in 16 territories, calls attention, in the United Nations Year of People of African Descent, to Kato's international inspiration as an African defender of sexual rights. It notes the continuing danger that sexuality, and the human rights defenders who work in this area, face in the Caribbean and elsewhere; and Governments' failure to champion people's freedom over their own bodies when it comes to sexuality. In the face of a proposal in the Uganda parliament to execute citizens for consensual homosexual acts and a clergy-led campaign to whip up animosity against gay sexuality, several Ugandan human rights groups have fought back. Kato's picture, captioned "Hang Them" was featured on the cover of tabloid Rolling Stone in November, one of a number of instances of media attempts to "out" gay and lesbian people, several of whom, like him, received death threats and other harassment. He and others successfully sued for damages, and the courts blocked the paper from further outing three weeks ago. On January 26, he reportedly suffered blows to his head with a hammer in his residence, and died. The European Union, United States President Barack Obama and others have condemned the killing and paid tribute to Kato's work. Across the Caribbean, those of us who knew Sexual Minorities Uganda advocacy officer David Kato as a friend, as well as those who only read of his work, are deeply moved by his powerful and courageous life. As fellow sexual rights advocates, we convey deepest condolences to all his loved ones and fellow activists on his awful murder. We have been horrified by the inhumanity and hysteria of Uganda's parliamentary, media and clergy campaigns to deny gay people like David the simple right to liberty, privacy, dignity and joy. We join others throughout the African diaspora in our pride in David's conviction and passion as an outspoken African champion of sexual autonomy — even when it put his liberty and life in great danger — and his record as an internationally recognized human rights defender. His inspiration stretches around the globe to those who also struggle against ignorance, indifference and violence to create countries and a world where everyone can enjoy our sexuality as something good and wholesome and worthwhile, free from shame and coercion. Were it not for advocacy late last year, 13 Caribbean countries would have allowed "sexual orientation" to be removed from an international statement of commitment to protect persons from unlawful killing because of who they are. David's death, following threats against his life, is a gripping reminder of the importance of those protections, and a sobering one of how much more work needs to be done to give people the right to freedom over their bodies in places like Africa and the Caribbean, where battles against slavery, colonialism, racism, apartheid, genocide, gender inequality and religious persecution ought to have taught us better lessons. David's life and death are reason to renew international commitment to sexual rights, to increase our vigilance for our colleagues in danger in Uganda. We respectfully urge Uganda's politicians, media and clergy and international Christian advocates who have become entangled in this hostility to seize the opportunity to bring an end to yet another painful chapter of intergroup violence in Africa. ***

December 11, 2009 09:40 PM PST
IN CELEBRATION OF THE MARRIAGE EQAULITY BILL - 15- 45 That was just successfully passed today in NEW YORK An Excerpt from my new book: They Say That I Am Broken:
Where Have I Been All Your Life?
Where Have I Been All Your Life? Is the Question You Asked Me! I could not come into your life until you had finally realized that true love and sexual expression are two totally different things. I could not come into your life until you were anchored in wisdom and in truth and could truly discern what true love is. I could not come into your life or be the fulfillment of your dreams until the seductions of life had lost their appeal and the realization of what true relationship is had exploded in your mind. I could not come into your life until you were willing to walk miles if you had to in your bare feet to find me, sacrifice the most expensive thing you own because now you realized that no material thing alone will ever fulfill you without love being present in your life. I could not come until you were absolutely sure who you were and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that when God made you, you were not a mistake or an accident and that there is no flaw in any of His Creations because, “God doeth all things well.” It is true, I longed for your love all my life and prayed for you fervently more times than you could ever know, bombarding heaven with my request so many times until it is surprising that the Angels did not put me out of God’s throne room! It wasn’t that He was unwilling to answer or give me the true desire of my heart (and that was someone like you) but I too had to evolve to a place of readiness before my gift could manifest -- before you could walk into my life. There were seemingly endless days that I thought I would not last because I needed you so and you were nowhere to be found; so I allowed myself to be only partially fulfilled by others with selfish motives because I longed for the touch of a human hand and the need for intimacy was so strong. There are so many, “I’m sorry God for not listening, not waiting, not being still and running ahead because of my impatience,” I want to say to Him!
When I saw you, I thought “Who is this? Why is he standing there? And then you spoke (while He said nothing, only with a smile of approval on His face) and the sound of your voice resonated in my spirit like a melody heard years ago, a song I was certain I had sung before, but not really. When I thought about what I was hearing I realized that I had heard the melody years ago in a dream as a child and every since then I have searched the whole world over, year after year trying to find the written music but never could, only generic versions.
The Lord would say to me “All are worthy!” But though He has forgiven me, my heart still weeps because now I am ready. My mind is mature, but I must know that the one who loves me back truly loves me because perfect love and only perfect love can cast out fear. I need to know that the person in whose eyes I peer into will see that inside of this resilient man is a childlike spirit, beautiful and untainted by life who still dreams, still is fascinated with the beauty of creation, is in love with the Gentle Savior, ambitious, creative, yet admittedly a little weary of life! Now time is fleeing from me, and fleeing from you (even though you may not be aware) like an hour glass now empty, not because we have done anything wrong, but because God has a divine plan for all of humanity that must unfold in order to restore His creation to its former state of perfection. No more time for you or I to waste searching, hoping dreaming, looking, waiting… We must take hold of the dream, realize that there is a price to pay for owning it, and never forsake it when we don’t agree because iron sharpens iron. Our imperfections might cause us to clash at times, but if we run away from each other, we will never come to understand that those same imperfections are invested with a supernatural power to perfect our love! Internationally Renowned Author and Minister Terry Angel Mason Sheds Light on Gay Relationships, Homophobia, HIV, and The Gay Black Male Experience In New Book, They Say That I Am Broken
Author calls out the Black Church's anti-gay rhetoric and encourages self-love and acceptance for same gender loving people across the country
Los Angeles, CA & San Diego, CA— Anti-gay sentiment and heterosexism within the Black Church and the Black community is alive and well, and continues to fuel the self-hatred and suicides of thousands of innocent victims around the world. According to a 2009 study by Dr. Caitlin Ryan, teens who were rejected by their families for identifying as gay or lesbian were 8.4 times more likely to report having attempted suicide. With suicide rates at an all-time high, Terry Angel Mason's highly anticipated release, They Say That I Am Broken, sets out to heal the wounded hearts and broken spirits of same gender loving people who are battling self-hate, loneliness, and abandonment, and offers powerful principals that ignite the flames of hope, love and acceptance.
Angel Mason, an international self-published author, speaker, HIV activist and Civil Rights leader, exploded on the literary scene with the poignant release of Love Won't Let Me Be Silent, a gripping tome that offered strategies to help parents, families, ministers, teachers and community leaders effectively understand and support gay teens, young adults, and people infected with HIV/AIDS. Mason's book touched the lives of millions and was submitted for a Pulitzer Prize and numerous awards, including the Lambda Awards and the Stonewall Awards.
Riding on the success of Love Won't Let Me Be Silent, They Say That I Am Broken is destined for the best-seller's list and is already receiving widespread praise from critics and readers around the country. According to journalist and author Darion Aaron, "If black men loving other black men are considered a revolutionary act, then Mason provides a blueprint to love God, yourself, and ultimately the man of your choosing boldly and without reservation in They Say That I Am Broken. It's a must read!" An engrossing collection of essays, short stories and poems, They Say That I Am Broken is a timely page-turner that deals with the reality of the black gay experience. Stories such as "My Boyfriend's Got a Girlfriend," and "This is Not a Dream", reflect the complexities surrounding gay men living double lives. Sizzling love poems such as Every Time I Hear Your Voice, How Do You Describe an Angel, and So You Think You Love Me, demonstrate the passion and undying love and commitment between men.
"The reason I decided to write They Say That I Am Broken is to start a movement that will put an end to suicides, self-destruction and exclusion that is taking place around the world, and to challenge the misconception that God does not love homosexuals. My ultimate goal is to present the truth; because it is only in truth that we can obtain self- acceptance, love, joy, and peace.
As you read through the pages of this thought-provoking book, you will find that the poems, stories, and articles address a variety of themes and stylistic sensibilities. Even though this book is classified as a non-fiction gay book, tucked neatly within its pages are creative fiction stores and commentaries, cleverly penned in both English and Spanish that boldly knock down taboos and transcends stigmas, that one day, I hope will be woven into social fabric and hearts of all Americans," states Mason.
A diverse work of fiction and non-fiction, Mason bravely and successfully confronts homophobia, DADT (Don't Ask Don't Tell), and eloquently discusses issues surrounding incarcerated men, gay marriage, homeless gay children, the Black Church's anti-gay agenda and the effects on the Black community, and more.
